A Premium+ calibration weight is KERN’s new service for those who want to maintain the reliability of their weight for a longer period of time. To explain how a Premium+ calibration weight differs from other calibration weights, and why it may be a smart investment, we first need to look at how calibration with weights works.
Calibration is a process where you manually adjust a scale or balance using a predefined mass. In short, to calibrate your scale, you place the mass—designed to provide the optimal calibration result—on the scale and confirm or reject whether the weight shows the correct value. To ensure that your weight measures exactly what it should, it is especially important that your calibration weights are handled correctly.
However, it should be noted that a weight will inevitably have a minimal plus or minus tolerance, which may deviate from the true value. In other words, a weight of 1 gram may in fact weigh 0.999 or 1.001 grams. You can find more information about this in our FAQ on calibration weights. It is also no secret that weights can lose mass over time. For the mathematically minded, it’s easy to see that a weight with a plus tolerance will retain its correct value the longest—staying as close as possible to the ideal weight.
Special procedures and expensive technology are required to ensure that weights have a plus tolerance, but with the latest advancements, it is now possible to obtain weights with this property. KERN’s OIML calibration weights are already among the most accurate weights on the market, and when you purchase a weight with plus tolerance, you are guaranteed a much longer service life.
The calibration weights come with a 30% extra tolerance, and therefore the fixed price of the product is increased by 30%.
